The Handshake

Hopefully by now you’ve mastered the “perfect high-five” but the question remains,  have you mastered the art of the handshake?

We’ve all heard that a handshake can shape someone’s initial view of you and really, who wants to be portrayed in a bad light? Ultimately, We want a handshake that creates a favorable impression.

It is very likely that you know that a firm grip, eye contact and an appropriate smile are key to a great handshake but there’s more to it than that.  Luckily, The Week has uncovered three handshakes styles that allow you to control the situation, courtesy of The Definitive Book of Body Language, by Barbara and Allan Pease. World’s Coolest Offices

We spend more time in our offices than we do at home, so it’s only fitting that the place we spend the most time in is undoubtedly the coolest, right? INC.com posted it’s annual “World’s Coolest Office” list and to my surprise uni-ball HQ is not on the list. What?! Aside from thousands upon thousands of high-quality writing instruments, our office is equipped with game rooms, on-site massage therapists, kayaking, bicycles, daily catered meals and free Starbucks. Wait that’s Google’s Seattle office…but we do have ample supplies of pens and pencils.  Google, Seattle, by the way, did not make the list but never fear, Google, New York did.

Dude, Don’t Post That

My friends post a lot of unnecessary junk on their Facebook profiles and in the past 6 months even more junk is being filtered through Instagram. I love you guys, really, but not only are you hurting me, according to data collected from several sources, you could be hurting yourselves. Yes, the update(s) you posted chronicling your breakup could potentially hurt your chances of landing that new job (and a new girlfriend). (more…)

Harvard’s Interview Advice

It’s the time of year to apply for jobs. Whether you’re a college senior applying for your first “real world” job or an underclassman gunning for an internship, you all have one thing in common – the interview. No matter what, to some degree, you’ll be nervous going into an interview. Fortunately, you have control over how those nerves affect you. Being able to recognize that you’ll have those nerves, you will be able to tackle them head on, entering the interview well prepared and confident.

Dream Big and Keep Learning

Artist and designer, Pete Fecteau attributes his success to hard work and the continued passion to learn – learning about what’s around him, about others’ interests and about things he’d never thought he might be interested in. It’s evident that this Visionary has an eye for design and admiration for what’s around him by his curious nature and the way he interprets every day images into new works of art.
